Viola LaTour

Viola M. LaTour, 92 of  Duluth died Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Miller Dwan Hospital, with her family by her side.  Viola was born April 20, 1927 in Craigville, MN to Francis and Mabel Putnam and they moved to Duluth when she was seven.  She worked as a cook and Woodland Hills, and also worked at Yale Dry Cleaners and Gustafson Bakery.  She was a member of St. John’s Church and a was a life member of VFW Auxiliary.  She married Jim LaTour on May 11, 1947.  Grandma loved cooking for her family; fishing and being at White Face Lake; she had beautiful flower gardens and loved feeding the hummingbirds.  She was very artistic and loved to craft. She also loved her furry friend, Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Mabel; siblings, John Putnam, Frank Jr., Marge Burton and Patricia NyQuist; her husband, Jim in 1994 and her daughter, Linda Rohady in 2017.

Viola is survived by her children, Judy (Dennis) Berndt and Thomas LaTour; grandchildren, Sharon (Andy) Olson, Mike (Kathy) Berndt, Amy (Scott) Koski, Brenda (Marty) Hester, Tara (Ryan) Swanson, Sky and Crystal Kirkman.  Great grandchildren, Melissa, Abbie, Kurt, Angel, Katie, Jamie, Kimberly, Nikki, Austin, Kayla, Ronald and Ryan Jr. and 12 great great grandchildren; Siblings, Jim (Lois Nylen) Putnam, Donny (Peggy) Putnam and Bobby Brouse and many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Kathy and the rest of the staff at Keystone Bluffs and Nate and the staff at Miller Dwan ICU for their loving care of Viola.

Visitation will be Sunday May 12 from 4-6pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue Monday from 10am to the 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. John’s Church, 1 W. Chisholm St. Duluth, MN. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2 ^nd St. Duluth, MN (218) 727-3555.
