Obituary

Rodger Alan Richards, 72, of Duluth, passed away on Thursday September 30, 2021, in St. Luke’s Hospital. He was born in Omaha, NE on December 4, 1948 to Philip and Jean Richards.  Rodger married Lorraine Holt on November 5, 1978, in Duluth, MN. He had worked at the TCF Bank Branch on the UMD campus until retirement. Rodger was a member of First United Methodist Church and its Men’s Group.

In his free time, Rodger was a writer, reader, philosopher, and painter, but most of all he was a devoted husband, son, father, grandpa, and brother to his loving family. He was universally adored by all who were privileged to know him.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Lori, his wife of 42 years, children Jenna (Steve) Mattson, and Andrea (Tim) Zajicek, grandchildren Elaina and Saige Mattson, Henry Wilson, and James, Rynn, Danna, and Grace Zajicek, siblings Gloria (Ellis) Thompson, Phyllis (Dave) Lindberg, Susan Richards, Russell Richards, Rod (Tim Goulet) Richards, sister-in-law Sue (Mike) Bourgoyne, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday October 9, 2021, from 11:00 AM until the Noon Funeral Service at First United Methodist Church, 230 E. Skyline Parkway, Duluth, MN 55811 (masks required indoors).  The service will be live streamed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WTCVQf9vt0 An outdoor coffee reception will be followed by burial at Park Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd St. Duluth, MN, 55805. 218-727-3555.
