Mary Gould

Mary Josephine Gould, of Duluth, died Saturday, September 29, 2018, three days prior to her 91st. birthday, surrounded by her family, at Solvay Hospice House.  She was born October 2, 1927 to Raymond and Viette Rouse.  Following attendance of Duluth Public schools and Stanbrook Hall, she went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.  It was there she met Edward S. Gould, Jr and they were married in 1948 and made their home in Duluth.

Mary Jo was involved in many volunteer civic activities, phases of her church administration, and outreach.  Some of these endeavors revolved around her love and respect for literature, such as establishing a library at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, pairing with a reading partner at Grant School, and sitting on the board of the University for Seniors, as well as being a member of the Friday Club.  Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, brother Raymond Rouse, husband Edward, and granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Gould.  She is survived by her sons Edward (Cathy) III, and John R., her daughter Mary Ann Giovannoni, her four granddaughters Mara (Shawn) Brown, Amy (Shawn) Weiler, Emily Gould and Nicole Giovannoni, and two great-granddaughters Aria and Emory Brown.  Private family services will be held.  If so desired, memorials directed to CHUM, Doctors Without Borders, or Pilgrim Congregational Church would be appreciated.  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Duluth, 218-727-3555.
