Walter E. "Bud" Newell

Walter E. (Bud) Newell, 89, of Hermantown, died on September 5, 2022. Bud was born on June 20, 1933, in Duluth.

After serving in the Army, Bud returned to Duluth and worked as a painter/decorator for his entire life.

While on a job at a bank he met the love of his life, Lois Hoogland, who became his wife of 58 years. Together, they spent lots of great time enjoying the outdoors on Island Lake and over 40 winters in Florida.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lois in May 2021, his sister Rose Mary Spaulding, brothers Orville, Robert and Frederick “Joe” Newell, and brother-in-law Arnie Boot.

Bud is survived by his sister-in-law Carol Boot, brother-in-law Charles Hoogland, many nieces and nephews.

No service is planned. Dougherty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
