V. Joan Semenchuk

DULUTH MN -- Virginia Joan Semenchuk passed away on Nov. 2, 2022 at the age of 84. She was born on Aug. 3, 1938 in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Elgin and Ruby Collard. Joan married Steve Semenchuk in 1961 in Sudbury. She earned a degree in Medical Technology after graduating from Sudbury High School and worked as a Med Tech in hospitals and clinics for more than 25 years. Joan and Steve lived in Niagara WI, Norway MI and Park Falls WI before moving to Duluth in 1986. She kept busy after that volunteering her time and energy to charity and church organizations in Duluth. She loved travel, trivia, golf, college football, the Detroit Lions, nature and animals, especially the many well-trained Black Labs she had over the years. She was beloved for her intelligence and her caring spirit. She was a beacon of kindness to all.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Elgin and Ruby; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen and Emil Dutka. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Steve; children, Kathy Semenchuk (husband Tom Oates), Madison WI; Lori (Forrest Monroe) Walker, Aurora, CO; and John (Cindy) Semenchuk, Marshfield, WI; grandchildren, Nicola Walker, Michael Walker, Maria Semenchuk and Ruby Semenchuk; sister, Jane (Ron) Hawthorne, Kanata, ON; nieces and nephews, Michael (Maryann) Dutka, Morris (Marilyn) Dutka, Nancy Hawthorne, Jeff (Tanya) Hawthorne; and other relatives.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 2310 E. 4th St., Duluth, MN, with a Visitation beginning at noon. Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery in Duluth. Memorials are preferred to The Damiano Center and/or Chum, both of Duluth.
