Shirley Loy Stennes

Shirley Loy Stennes 90, of Duluth, MN passed away peacefully with family at her side on July 2, 2026. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence “Cling” and Corinne Oelslager; husband, John P. Stennes; grandson, Cory T. Wirta, and most recently, brothers-in-law, Mark and Jim Stennes; sisters-in-law, Geri Stennes and Kay Oleslanger.

Shirley was born on July 28, 1938 in Fergus Falls. She dedicated much of her life to the care of her mother, father, husband, and family. She attended Bemidji State and worked for Maurices for 20 years. Shirley married John on December 7, 1958. Though we saw a tough exterior, she had a heart of gold. We will miss her right-wing politics, sharp wit, and sarcasm. She will be greatly missed.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Vicky (Billy) Wirta; grandson, Shawn Wirta; granddaughters, Payton Wirta and Bella Towle; great-grandsons, Liam and John Wirta; son, Michael (Lorenna) Stennes; grandsons, Toby, Teri, Tom, and Tim Stennes; and extended family and friends.

Shirley’s last request was to have no formal service. We will honor Shirley’s request. In place we ask if anyone would like to express their condolences to Vicky and family, please stop at 110 E. Village View Dr., Duluth MN 55802 – Community Room on July 17, 2026 from 10:45-12:45.
