Shirley Rose

Shirley Rose, age 89, of Duluth, died October 12, 2026, just a few weeks short of her 90th birthday. She was born on November 26, 1936 in Ironwood Michigan to Lester and Lottie Rose. Shirley was a long-time resident of Duluth Central Hillside and cared greatly for her family and community. Some of her most cherished memories were at the family cabin in Sawyer. Where you would most likely find her on the riding lawnmower, mowing— and re-mowing the lawn. More than anything she loved her pets, especially her dog Princess, who lived for more than 22 years. If you had the pleasure of meeting Shirley, you never forgot her. She will be greatly missed.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Corrine Donfris and Mary Ann Rose, and a brother Eugene Rose. She is survived by her nephews, Don Donfris, of Shadow Hills, CA., Michael (Michelle) Donfris, of Southlake, Texas and a niece, Barbara (Arthur) Didrikson of Eden Prairie, MN and four grand nephews, Paul Donfris, Cloquet, Jason Donfris, Poway, Nick Donfris, Southlake, Jacob Donfris, Boston, and several great grand-nieces and nephews.

We thank the team at Hilltop Health Care and the hospice team who provided such care and kindness to Shirley in her final months.

Burial will be at Oneota Cemetery on Tuesday, October 20th at 1:00 p.m.
