Shirley Ann Martin

Shirley Ann Martin, 96 of Duluth, died Thursday, September 15^th at Diamond Willow, Lester Park, with her family by her side.  Shirley was born September 26, 1925 in Detroit, MI to Leo and Ann Quigley.  She graduated from St. Gregory High School in Detroit.  She met Rodney Martin, and they were married on September 17, 1947.  Shirley and Rodney moved to Duluth, settling in Lakeside.  She worked at Target, Lester Park Greenhouse, and Lake Superior Fish Company.

Shirley was an active member of St. Michael’s Church serving on its funeral lunch committee and made pasties, jams, and jellies for the church.  She enjoyed knitting, socializing over coffee and doughnuts with friends and spending summers on Isle Royale.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Leo, and Ann; siblings, Bernard, Leo, Edward, Bob, Lucille and Marion. Shirley was also preceded in death by her husband Rodney and her son Edward.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Dick (Jan Bushey) Martin and Tom (Jackie Docauer) Martin; daughter in law, Sharon Martin; close family friend Irene Dunphy; grandchildren, Laura (Mark) Franckowiak, Hannah Martin, Kyle (Tiffanie) Martin, Jerad (Cherry Dietzmann) Martin, Eric Martin; great grandchildren, Kain Towers, Isaiah Martin, Kaiya Martin, David Bond, Mickel Bond and Hallie Martin.

Visitation will be Friday, September 23^rd from 5-7pm with wake prayers at 6:30pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue Saturday from 10am to the 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael’s Church, 4901 E Superior St., Duluth, MN.  Memorials are preferred and may be directed to St. Michael’s Church.  Sign the online register book at, www.dfhduluth.com.  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral home, 600 E 2^nd St. Duluth, MN 55805, (218) 727-3555.
