Ruth Josephine Schramek

Ruth Josephine (Wright) Schramek, age 90, died on June 22, 2026. She was born in Columbus, Wisconsin, on June 16, 1936, to Charles and Lorraine (Austin) Wright. Ruth married the love of her life, James Schramek, on October 27, 1956. James’ career took them to Duluth, where Ruth and James raised their family and set down roots. After working in the public libraries, Ruth became the office manager for an accounting firm. She also earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Scholastica. Ruth was a long-standing member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, spending many years singing in the choir. She also volunteered with the Girl Scouts, including serving as president of the Northern Pines Girl Scout Council.

Although Ruth enjoyed crocheting and baking, her greatest love was for her family. She was a consistent, loving presence in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She always put others before herself and will be greatly missed by anyone lucky enough to have been loved by her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte (Wright) and Jan Coon. She is survived by her children—Lisa (Greg) Moir, Leslie (Bill) Evens, John (Julie) Schramek, Charles (Susan) Schramek; grandchildren—Kristen Moir and Tara (Josh) Gorder; John, James (Jeni), Jason Crabree; Sarah and Katherine Schramek; Lauren and Alexa Schramek; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 10, 11:00 a.m., with a visitation one hour beforehand at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 4901 East Superior Street, Duluth. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Michael’s are preferred.
