Robert Leo Galarneau

March 16, 1931 — November 16, 2025

Eagan

Robert Leo Galarneau, 94, of Eagan, a beloved father and grandfather, joined his wife, parents and sister in heaven on November 16, 2025. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.

Robert (“Bob”) was born on March 16, 1931, to Josephine and Leo Galarneau in Duluth, MN. He grew up in Duluth, served in the Army National Guard, and on July 14, 1956, married the love of his life, Carole Brown. Together, they built a lifelong partnership rooted in love, faith, and family as they raised their four children.

Bob worked his entire career in the telecommunications industry, working for Contel Corporation for 38 years. In 1958, he moved his family to Two Harbors, MN, to manage Contel’s telephone business. In 1965, he accepted a new position and relocated his family to South Minneapolis, a community he and Carole proudly called home for 25 years.

An avid outdoorsman, Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature. Following his retirement in 1989, Bob and Carole moved to their beloved retirement home on Pequaywan Lake, where he enjoyed even more time in the great outdoors and on many home improvement projects. In true Minnesotan fashion, they became snowbirds and spent their winters under the warm sun in Green Valley, AZ.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Leo; his wife, Carole; and his sister, Alice Eck. He is survived by his children, Steven, Gregory (Melinda), Susan (Mark) Christensen, and Jeffrey (Lynn); nine grandchildren, Jesse, Michelle, Ashley, Lauren, Jacob, Daniel, Jennifer, Rachael, and Nichole; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 2 at 11:00 am, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 am, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 2410 Morris Thomas Rd, Duluth, MN 55811. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials or donations may be made to EWTN https://missions.ewtn.com/donation/love-and-understanding/ a Catholic television program that was a staple on his tv for many years, or CurePSP https://secure2.convio.net/cpsp/site/Donation2;jsessionid=00000000.app20014b?df_id=4320&4320.donation=form1&mfc_pref=T&NONCE_TOKEN=70FB2D0EEA4ED7FEC9F091E729078336, an organization that is searching for a cure to a deadly brain disease that claimed the life of his wife, Carole.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Stonehaven Senior Living and Minnesota Hospice for their tremendous care and love.
