Richard J. McManus

Richard J. McManus, 90, formerly of Artavia St., died Friday, August 14, 2026 in his residence at the Pillars of Hermantown. Richard was born in Duluth on September 14, 1935 to John Alfred and Elsymae (Robillard) McManus. He was a 1953 graduate of Duluth Cathedral High School. Richard worked at the Minnesota Air National Guard in Duluth for over 30 years where he was the Avionics Branch Chief, retiring as Chief Master Sergeant. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and many other countries. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara in 1999; his second wife, Donna in 2017 and his brothers, Jim and Pat. Richard is survived by his children, James (Kristy) of Duluth, Tom of Duluth, Bob (Michele) of Mountain City, TN and Sue (Mark) Green of Oswego, IL; a sister, Marilyn Thebarge of Duluth; his 10 grandchildren, Hannah, Kiera, Patrick, Molly, Ryan, Emily, Adam, Eddie, John and Joseph; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at Dougherty Funeral Home, with wake prayers at 6:30 pm. Visitation will continue Thursday at St. Benedict Catholic Church from 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial. Military Honors will be accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard at Calvary Cemetery following the Mass. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home.
