Raymond H Rodenwald

March 5, 1935 — April 12, 2026

Duluth

Raymond H. Rodenwald, age 91, was born March 5, 1935, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, to Herbert and Aelene Rodenwald. He passed away peacefully at his home in Duluth, Minnesota, on April 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to family, faith, and community.

Raymond was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Virginia M. “Reinking” Rodenwald, on August 11, 1956. Together, they shared a lifetime of love, commitment, and devotion to one another and their family.

He is lovingly survived by four of his five children: Katherine A. Hawkins (Brian), Ronald R. Rodenwald (Cynthia), Elizabeth A. Swanson (James), and Richard R. Rodenwald (Dawn Kohl). Raymond was the proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and the great‑grandfather to 24 great‑grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert A. Rodenwald and Aelene “Richter” Rodenwald, and by his son, Robert “Bob” Rodenwald.

Raymond earned a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of Minnesota. He dedicated much of his professional life to the energy industry, working for several years with Northern States Power in Minneapolis before continuing his career with Minnesota Power, where he worked for 26 years. He retired in July 1991.

Raymond was an active member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Duluth, Minnesota. He was also involved in the Arrowhead Antique Automobile Chapter, Boy Scouts of America, served as an AARP Safe Driving instructor, volunteered with Miller Dawn chemical dependency services, and enjoyed time with the Minnesota Power Trap Shooting Club.

Raymond will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his willingness to help others, and the love he shared with family and friends. He especially enjoyed working on old cars and later Airstream trailers, in which he loved to travel. He found joy in buying and selling “treasures” at swap meets and auctions. Memories of hunting and fishing—two of his favorite pastimes—and time spent at his cabin will be deeply cherished. The twinkle in his eye and the grin he wore while telling a good story will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Hospice Team at Aspirus St. Luke’s and Cornerstone Caregivers of Duluth, Minnesota, for the compassionate care and support they provided.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2012 East Superior Street, Duluth, Minnesota, on April 18, 2026 at 1:00 pm. A light lunch will be served following the service at the church.

Raymond will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
