Randall Mathew Thomas, age 70 of Makinen, passed away on August 20, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. He was born in Soudan, MN on November 6, 1953. Upon his graduation from Cotton High School, Randy started working at US Steel. He worked there for 30 years and retired in 2001. He married the love of his life, Beverly Kallio, on October 13, 1973. His quiet demeanor was the perfect complement to Beverly’s outgoing personality. They shared 50 years of marriage and raised 2 beautiful children together. They started Thomas Excavating LLC and worked together as a family until the day he died. In his free time, Randy enjoyed all the natural wonders of Northern Minnesota, mainly hunting and fishing. Fishing opener in the boundary waters was especially meaningful.
Randy is preceded in death by infant daughter, Lisa Thomas; mother & stepfather, Mary & Norman Kilpela; and maternal grandparents, John & Sophie Thomas.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; children, Randall John (Jennifer Christianson), and Rhonda Duesler; grandchildren, Alexa (Ryan) Powell and Jackson Duesler; siblings, Marlene (Bob) Greenly, John Kilpela, Mona (Mike) Millen, Mark Kilpela, and Michael Kilpela; aunt, Sandra Dallum; uncle, John Thomas; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A Private family interment will take place in Embarrass, MN.
