Peter MacLeod Clure, 59, of Duluth, passed away on Saturday, March 28, with his family by his side.
He graduated from Duluth East High School and earned a degree in Political Science from the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Pete was nationally recognized as an icon in beer memorabilia, with a focus on historic Duluth breweries. He co-authored Naturally Brewed, Naturally Better and contributed several articles to the Breweriana Journal. He was a member of the American Breweriana Association, the National Association of Breweriana Advertising Collectors, the North Star Chapter of the Breweriana Collectors of America, the Hamm’s Club, and Duluth’s Nordlander Club.
No one knew more about Hamm’s Beer than Pete.
Pete was also an aficionado of all things related to the Duluth seaport. As a seafarer, he worked on pilot boats and sailed the Great Lakes aboard a laker.
As a sales representative with Zenith City’s Michaud Distributing, Pete was deeply valued by his customers. He was known for his extensive knowledge and keen insight into what beer drinkers preferred.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Carolyn Clure; his grandparents, Tom and Jean Dougherty; his stepbrother, Mark Curran; his close friends (“besties”), Danny Lane and John Pickar; and his beloved Lady Bug.
He is survived by his sister, Cindy (Jeff) Noble, and their sons, Ben and Will; his brother, Benjamin (Sarah) Knutson, and their children, Maija, Noble, and Rowan; his stepsisters, Alison Curran Hull and Shelia Curran Hill; his adoptive parents, Ken and Mona Knutson; his adoptive siblings, Casey (Cord) Carbert, Nellie (Tim) Suess, and Andrew (Andrea) Knutson; as well as many additional nieces, nephews, and the entire Dougherty clan.
Pete received exceptional care from Ben Knutson, Jen, Village Caregiving, Wendy, Aspire Hospice, the dedicated staff at Diamond Willow – East, and many other healthcare providers along the way
Visitation will be from 5-7pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home, on Tuesday April 21st and will continue from 10:00am to the 11:00am funeral service on Wednesday April 22 at the Dougherty Funeral Home.
Burial at Calvary Cemetery.
