Paul Theodore Kulas passed away at the age of 89 on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at his home in Duluth, Minnesota.

Paul was born at home in Albany, Minnesota to Joseph and Matilda (Friedl) Kulas on June 28, 1937. He was the youngest of four children and grew up with his brothers Everett and John and sister Luanne (Coy). He graduated from Albany High School and received his B.A. from St. John’s University. He had advanced degrees from St. Cloud State University, Mankato State University and the University of Minnesota.

Paul married Kathryn (Siebenand) Kulas, on August 22, 1964, and they recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Together they had two children, Joseph and Susan.

He began his career in education at Minnesota Lake. He later taught at Nazareth Hall, and taught and was school librarian at Bird Island and Anoka Hennepin District 11.

Paul was interested in studying genealogy and was one of the founding members of the Polish Genealogical Society of Minnesota, serving as the editor of the PGS-MN newsletter for many years.

He was an avid fan of St. John’s University football and enjoyed domestic and foreign travel, visiting many states and countries with his wife and children.

Paul is survived by his wife Kathryn, son Joseph, daughter Susan, son-in-law Bill Higgins, brother-in-law Charles Siebenand and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at St. Michael’s Church, Duluth on Saturday, September 5, with a visitation at 10 AM and a Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Internment will be held at St. John’s University cemetery on Saturday, September 19 at 10:30 AM. Memorials can be made to the Kulas Family Scholarship Fund at St. John’s University.
