Patricia "Pat" Grady

Patricia Therese Grady "Pat", 89, of Duluth, passed away peacefully with twin daughters Patti and Paula by her side on Thursday, June 07, 2018.  She was born in Duluth to Peter and Anna Matchefts on October 20, 1928.

Pat was the mother everybody wishes they could have. The six children were her everything. She ruled the roost with unlimited love, unceasing laughter, and an unwavering focus on teaching the children to think for themselves, treat everybody with respect, and do the right thing even when it wasn’t easy.

She will go down in Catholic mother history as unsurpassed in fertility, efficiency and sanity -- combining a string of Irish Twins with a real set to jump start family life with five children age 3 and under, and to emerge astonishingly sane from that skirmish. She loved her regular visits to China, when she would smuggle frozen turkeys in her suitcase to celebrate Thanksgiving. In her later years, Pat loved her weeks at Superior Shores.

To know Pat was to love her. The world would certainly be a better place if everybody was blessed with a mother as wonderful as Pat Grady.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, John (Ham); brothers, Bill and Peter; and sisters, Anna, and Louise.

She is survived by, children, LouAnn (Chuck) Aspoas, Cathy (Jim) McGregor, Patti Grady, Paula (Ted) Chelgren, Tim (Ampy) Grady, and Peter Grady; grandchildren, Jesse Aspoas, Casey (Scott) Luostari, Sally (Brandon) McGregor, Grady McGregor; great-grandchildren, Anja, Vincent, Max, and Evelyn; and numerous, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10AM, Thursday, June 14, 2018, with visitation one-hour prior at St Mary Star of the Sea, 325 E 3rd St, Duluth, MN 55805, burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers Pat requested that you take a friend to lunch.
