Mercedes P. Arias

Mercedes P. Arias, 79, of Duluth, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday November 27, 2024, in St, Lukes Hospital. She was born in Havanna, Cuba on June 2, 1945, to Phillip and Juanita Barzaga. Mercedes was a fantastic cook, and had cooked in restaurants in New Orleans, Miami and in New Jersey. She loved to go shopping, especially at Super One and Cub Foods. and Walmart. She was a very generous and giving person, especially to those in need.

Mercedes is survived by sons Humberto Gonzalez Barzago, Canary Islands, Spain, and Martos Gonzales of Duluth, brothers Elario Barzaga Diaz and Fransico Barzaga Diaz, and a sister Delores Barzaga Diaz, several grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held on Thursday December 12, 2024, from Noon until the 1PM Memorial Service in Dougherty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home. 600 E. 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55805. 218-727-3555.
