Maybelle “Becky” Ward (Beck) passed away on September 13 in Duluth, aged 91. Becky was born in Duluth on May 11, 1929, youngest of five children, to recent immigrants J. Henry and Berthine Beck from Germany and Norway. Becky graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1947 and married her high school sweetheart, I. Worth Ward, at First Presbyterian Church in 1951. They were married 53 years until his passing in 2004. Becky and Worth loved working on their class reunion committee together for many years. Becky and Worth had five children. Becky was an incredibly giving and loving parent, who worked tirelessly to give and serve family, neighbors, and her community. Becky was infectiously gregarious and humorous. She loved people and would engage and compliment friends, acquaintances, and strangers alike. She worked at Glass Block, the Lakeside School PTA, as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, a Welcome Wagon hostess, and an operator at St. Luke’s Hospital for many years. Becky attended UMD with an interest in psychology. A devoted Christian and dedicated member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church, she worked with Sunday school classes and lead her church circle. Becky loved to sing and quote songs and scripture daily. Becky had a passion for life, loved the outdoors and relished building memories with family at the cabin and on vacations together. Becky was preceded in death by her husband, Worth; her parents; siblings, Robert Beck and Mary Jane Miller. Becky is survived by her sisters, Mildred Nimmo and Virginia Kunde; her children, David (Dawn), Susan Grover, Betsy, Janet, and Craig, and four grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by all those whose lives she touched, but she and Worth have a lot of catching up to do. Memorials may be made to Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 4430 McCulloch St. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
