Mary Bernice (Smith) Ruhman

Mary Bernice (Smith) Ruhman, 93, of Superior, passed away February 18, 2026, in Superior WI. She was born in Duluth to Frank Sr. and Mary Smith, on June 22, 1932.

She graduated from Stanbrook Hall and St Scholastica School of Nursing. She married June 11, 1955, to Neil A. Ruhman. Mary worked at St Mary’s Hospital, then was a School Nurse in the Superior School District ending her nursing career at Miller Dwan Hospital as Head of Nursing in Surgery.

Mary was known for her floral arranging, which she loved. She liked knitting, cooking, traveling, decorating for all the holidays, gardening, and crafting with her husband, Neil - Even starting their own business — M & N House of Crafts — which kept them quite busy in retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Neil; son, Brian; grandson, Tyler Ruhman brothers, Frank (Patricia) Smith, and Robert (Rose) Smith.

Mary is survived by her children, Jeannine (Jeff) Doig, Linda (Jeff) Chida, and Scott (Colleen) Ruhman; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, William (Claire) Smith; several nieces, nephews, other family and friends

Family would like to thank Betty’s Harbor at New Perspective, Superior WI, Essentia Hospice and Jeanne who fixed her hair weekly and always made her feel beautiful.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM, Monday, June 22, 2026, with visitation one-hour prior at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 2410 Morris Thomas Rd, Duluth, MN 55811.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to Solvay Hospice House.
