Marie Couture, age 92, formerly of Duluth, passed away on March 1st while in hospice at Woodlake in New Hope, MN. Marie was born on August 19, 1933, to Rose Guzzo Finco and Stefano Finco in Ironwood, MI.
She graduated from Bessemer High School in 1951 and then graduated from the College of St. Scholastica with a degree in Medical Technology in 1955. Marie and several college friends moved to Flint, MI where she worked for a short time before the love of her life, Frank Couture, brought her back to Duluth and they married in Ironwood, MI in 1958. They had two children, Catherine and Steve. Marie was a loving and caring mother and a devout Catholic. Marie worked at St. Mary’s Hospital for 30 years where she met many lifelong friends. As a working mom, still found time to participate in her children’s activities such as hockey, dance, camping, and Girl Scouts. There were several family dogs over the years that Marie became very attached to, especially her beloved Buddie.
Marie had a profound love of music, playing clarinet in the High School Band, playing the piano, attending the Duluth Symphony, and singing in Holy Rosary’s choir for many years. Marie was a great cook and hosted many family gatherings and friends over the years and attended many family celebrations in Duluth and beyond.
Later in life, Marie enjoyed attending Red Hat Society events. In her last few years at Woodlake, she participated in many events and attended Mass regularly. She continued to celebrate her birthdays and Mother’s Day with her children.
Marie is survived by her children: Catherine Couture (Jeff Moulton), Greenbrea, CA. and Steven Couture (Evelyn), Plymouth, MN. along with close family friends, John, Debbie, Sammie and Rebecca Lepak. Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Frank, parents Stefanno and Rose Finco, her sister Antoinette Carr, and many friends and family.
Visitation will be held Monday March 30, 2026, from 5PM to 7PM with a 6:30PM Wake Prayers in Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd St., Duluth, MN 55805. Visitation will continue Tuesday March 31, 2026, from 10AM until the 11AM Mass of Christian Burial in Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary. 2801 E. 4th St., Duluth, MN 55812. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
