Lawrence (Larry) Bernard Sieger (94) died peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, with his family by his side. Larry was born in Duluth on August 10, 1931, to Raymond and Marietta Sieger. He grew up in the central hillside and graduated from Duluth Central. After high school, Larry was drafted and served in the Korean War. He spent most of his working career at Northwestern Bell/AT&T and a proud member of the Communication Workers of America Union.
In 1957, Larry met Laddie (Walczak) at a friend’s party. They married in 1958, bought a house in upper Lakeside, raised four children and built an amazing family and extended family.
Larry had three passions in life: family, golf and hockey. He was a loving husband, father, grampa, great grampa. uncle and friend to all who knew him. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the family cabin on Little Grand Lake. He was a fixture at Lester Park Golf course with a smooth swing, wristy putting stroke, two holes-in-one (8 and 15), and a proud of member of the Red Caps and North Lakes. Larry never missed a sporting event for his kids, grandkids or great grandkids, and hockey was his favorite. From cleaning and selling smelt for Lester Park hockey to serving as a long-standing volunteer at the Spirit of Duluth, Larry was always around rinks. He was a long-time fan of UMD Bulldog hockey, watching games at the curling club, DECC, and Amsoil and proclaimed watching the Bulldogs in person at 94 surrounded by family his Best Day Ever!
He was patient, kind, giving, and loved by many. All he ever said he needed was “love and understanding.” His advice to kids and grandkids was a simple and remembered mantra on how to live life – “don’t do dumb things.”
Larry is reunited in heaven with the love of his life, Laddie, his parents Raymond and Marietta, sister Potsie (Robbie), other relatives and friends.
He is survived by his children, Tom (Sue) Sieger, Terry (Gary) Gilbert, Kelly Sieger (Brian Jones), and Todd (Laura) Sieger. Grandchildren/great grandchildren, Kendra (Chuck) Goldsworthy (Sophie, Isley, Jackson and Finley), Katie (Gabriel) Puterbaugh (Gianna), Jillayne Gilbert (Drew), Dylan Sieger Cox, Macy and Nya Sieger; and many extended family and friends.
