Lance David Michalski age 60 died unexpectedly in his home on May 8, 2026. Lance was born in Minneapolis, MN on November 19, 1965 to parents, Roger and Edith (Hangartner). His talent for mechanics showed itself early and stayed with him throughout his life. As a small child he would take apart household appliances, just to see how they worked. As a teenager, his focus shifted to cars and dirtbikes. The neighborhood even started a petition to get his license taken away. As an adult, he built cars to drag race at the Brainerd International Raceway. His talents helped him excel professionally as well. He worked as an electrician at WLSSD for over 30 years. He married the love of his life, Karen Zapzalka on October 4, 1997. Together they raised two boys, Kevin and Chris, whom Lance loved dearly.
Lance is preceded in death by an infant sister, Heather Michalski. He is survived by his wife, Karen Michalski; boys, Kevin (Libby Solem) and Chris; parents, Roger and Edie Michalski; sister, Kari Michalski; dear friend, Tom May; In-laws, Gary (Linda) Zapzalka, Mick Zapzalka, Brian Zapzalka, Barb Zapzalka, Wayne Zapzalka, Carmen (Mike) Yasgar, John (Sarah) Zapzalka, Michelle (Frank) Kurowski, Ann Marie (Andy) Zimmermann; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 15th at 11:00 am at Dougherty Funeral Home. If desired, drive a classic vehicle as we make a procession for interment at Forest Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home 218-727-3555.
