Kristin Suzanne Koskela, age 82, of Duluth died peacefully on March 7, 2026, at Aspirus-St. Luke's. She was born on July 16, 1943, to Veikko and Priscilla Halberg and grew up in Cherry, Minnesota. She was a 1961 graduate of Cherry High School and married her high school sweetheart Harold Koskela on December 1, 1962. They spent most of their lives on the Iron Range.
Kristin worked as a secretary at Kirscher Transport for 30 years, retiring with Harold in 2005. Once retired, they enjoyed spending as much time as possible with their daughters and families, going to their six grandchildrens' school concerts and sporting events, and hosting big holiday get togethers.
Kristin was deeply interested in everyone's lives, always making sure to let her family know she was proud of their accomplishments. She was fiercely proud of her Finnish heritage and loved telling stories of relatives in our family tree.
Kristin is preceded in death by her parents, Veikko and Priscilla. She is survived by her husband Harold; daughters Kimberly Koskela, Chandra (Tom) Joki, and Leah (John) Byers; grandchildren Braeden Henderson (Megan and children Rachel and Mason), Taylor (Hannah) Troland, and Jon (Elissa) Troland; Hannah (Tyler) Nystrom, Michael (Aurora) Joki, and Matthew Joki; great-grandchildren Blakely, Romeo, Elsie, Elara and baby Nystrom due in September; siblings Marcy Steele (Mike Sundich), Sharon Lange and Bradley (Deb) Halberg, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Kristin's life will be held at a later date.
