Katherine J. Rivers

Katherine J. “Kay” Rivers, 83, of Duluth, died Monday, Feb. 5^th at BHC’s Safe Harbor Memory Care, with her family by her side.  Kay was born Jan. 9, 1941, in Virginia, MN to Eric and Leona Wicklund.   She met the love of her life Albert Rivers, at Nelsons Resort on Crane Lake where they both worked. They were married on January 13, 1961.   Kay was a stay-at-home mother for many years, later in life she was a kitchen and bath designer at the former Westburn Plumbing Supply, now known as Ferguson Plumbing and Supply.

She is a member of St. Rose Church in Proctor, the Arrowhead Builders Assoc. and the Women in Construction Assoc.  She enjoyed taking care of her beautiful flower gardens, reading, swimming and enjoying time with her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and cabin trips with special friends Mary and Wayne Saline, and Lori.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eric and Leona; sister, Vicky Melgeorge; nephews, Johnny and Frank Lee; and her husband, Albert in 1999.

Kay is survived by her daughters, Nicci (Efrain) Alvarez, Kris (Joshua) Anvid and Alison (Jay) Sorenson; grandchildren, Celina, Kayla, Lily and Emma Alvarez, and RyAnna and Deekon Anvid; great grandchildren, Santiago, Aurora and Raya Lynn; her sister, Rose Lee (Ken) Neimi, nephews Casmir “Tony“, Paul and Jimmy Melgeorge, and many distant relatives and friends.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
