Justine Goritchan

Justine Ferkul Goritchan, 83, of Duluth, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center surrounded by her family and listening to her much loved Slovenian music.  She was born November 23, 1935 in Primca vas, Slovenia to John and Marie (Skufca) Ferkul.  Justine, along with her parents and brothers, came to the United States in January 1950 and made Biwabik, MN their new home.  Justine met her husband to be Boris in Eveleth, MN and they united in marriage on August 11, 1956 at St. John Baptist Catholic Church in Biwabik.  They moved to Duluth in 1961 to start their new life together and raise a family.  Justine loved to sing and belonged to the John Duss music conservatory choir and other singing organizations.  Above all she loved spending time with family and feeding her animals.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers John, Cyril and Vincent Ferkul.  Justine is survived by her husband of 62+ years, Boris; her children Andrea (Ralph Hunter) Goritchan and Boris John Goritchan, both of Duluth; her granddaughter Isabelle (Brandon Fegraeus) Goritchan, and her great-granddaughter Lily Kwako of Maple, WI; her brother Stanley (Maria) Ferkul of Biwabik; many nieces, nephews and other family; and her beloved dog Otto.

Visitation:  Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 1419 St. Benedict St., Duluth, MN.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.  Please consider memorials to Food for the Poor at www.foodforthepoor.org.
