John Thomas

John Patrick Thomas, 59, of Duluth, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, in the Solvay Hospice House. He was born on February 7, 1960, to Donald and Florence Thomas. John was a man of faith and an active member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. John was also a hardworking man and took pride in his work and providing for his family. He held multiple accounting positions throughout his career including President of the Northern Communities Credit Union and CFO of Spirit Mountain. During his fight with cancer, he was the bookkeeper at St. Benedict's to satisfy his ongoing strong work ethic. John was a loving husband, a devoted father, a Papa that would do anything for his grandchildren, and a faithful son, brother, uncle, fishing buddy, and friend to many. Love was at the core of everything John did and his love was plentiful. He commonly greeted with a hug and during a visit would fill your heart with the joy of his infectious laughter. He loved his family above all else, and concluded every encounter with his children with a gentle reminder of "love you." He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Jim Kuettel, and his in-laws Maurice and Audrey Espointour. He is survived by his wife Jill, children Ryan (Sarah Johnson), Heather (Jamie) Johnsen, and Beth (Tanner Foucault) Thomas, grandchildren Lexi, Abby, Jackson, Clara, Nick, and Johnathan, his parents Donald and Florence Thomas, siblings Pat (Dale) Sundin, Peggy Kuettel, Ann (Marsh) Tousignant, Paul Thomas, Susan (Bob) Cannon, Peter (Lisa) Thomas, and Mark (Brenda) Thomas, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday June 4, 2019 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church 1419 St. Benedict St. Duluth, MN 55811, from 5PM until 7PM with a 6:30PM Rosary Recitation. Visitation will continue from 10AM until the 11AM Memorial Mass on Wednesday June 5, 2019 in the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
