John Daniel Porter, 80, of Proctor, passed away on September 13, 2026, at home. He was born in Duluth to Miley and Ella Porter on July 5, 1946. John grew up in Woodland. Lived for a while in Floodwood and survived Hurricane Katrina while living in the gulf area. He worked with his brother Paul towing and salvaging cars, drove for Loomis, and was a partner in “Minnesota Flags” company. He loved cars, playing checkers, watching old westerns, flags and driving the area looking for wildlife. Eagles, swans, woodpeckers and hummingbirds were some of his favorites. John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; brothers, Philip, Mickey (Miles) and Paul; and sisters, Virginia and Edith. He is survived by brothers, Tom and Jim; his daughter, Beth Porter, grandson Austin, stepson Keith and by his best friend and finance Annette.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 23, 2026, in Dougherty Funeral Home from 10AM until 11AM Funeral Service. 600 E. 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55805 and interment at Forest Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home. 600 E. 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55805. 218-727-3555.
