Jason P Burnett Sr. Saagajiwe – Gaabaw

Passed away on February 16, 2023, at the age of 75. Preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Clarence, Leslie and Harvey Burnett, Vivian Sessoms and Joan Hall. Survived by his wife, Maria; children, Monique Burnett, Michael Burnett, and Jennifer (Wesley Ballinger), Jason Burnett Jr. grandchildren, Yara Ballinger, Nikkia and Jason III Burnett; sister, Sally Fountain; and many brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews and many other loving family members and friends.  

Jason was passionate about spending time with family and friends, fishing with Yara, his favorite sports teams were the Detroit Tigers and Lions.  Jason was committed to working on Constitutional Reform with other Tribal Communities and members to truly enhance Tribal Sovereignty in deciding their own enrollment requirements. His career as an automotive engineer for General Motors Corporation led Jason to know every model and make of cars that were produced by “GM” since its inception. 

An overnight Wake will begin at 6pm on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Grand Portage Log Building, 61 Upper Road, Grand Portage, MN. It will continue until the 10am Funeral Service on Monday, February 20, 2023. Burial at Sunset Cemetery in Grand Portage.
