Janet Marie Sklenicka, 71, of Duluth, passed away on Saturday January 22, 2022, at the Benedictine Living Community of Duluth after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was born in Staples, MN on June 14, 1950, to Leonard and Wilma Sklenicka. She graduated from Wm. Kelly High School in Silver Bay in 1968. Her education continued at Bemidji State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1972, and again at the University of St. Thomas where she earned her Master of Arts in Education in 2001. Jan dedicated her entire life to educating young children throughout MN, including 10 years on an Army base in Hanau, Germany. She truly loved and was loved by her many students. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the staff at the Benedictine Living Community of Duluth for their love and support for Jan and her family; Also, to the Essentia Hospice staff for making her final days comfortable.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by siblings Ronald (Pam) Sklenicka of Kasson, MN, and Sandra (John) Goman of Rice Lake, MN, nieces and nephews Sasha Croutaire, David ((Heather) Sklenicka, Rebecca (Adam) Clark, William (Kaitlyn) Goman, and Renee Goman, great-nieces Kerensa Goman, Ivy Sklenicka, Julia, Samantha, and Autumn Clark, great-nephew Edward Goman, and many longtime friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday June 11, 2022, from 10AM until the 11AM Memorial Service in Dougherty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Two Harbors.
