James R. Thoreson, of Duluth, passed away Thursday, Feb. 1st, 2024 with his family by his side.
Jim was born on January 27, 1948, to Raymond and Verna Thoreson. He graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1966 and attended UMD. There he met the love of his life, Claudia Tangen; they were married on August 16th, 1970. Together they raised their children Brian and Shelley. Jim and Claudia loved listening to their favorite records and could often be heard singing along to their song, “Islands in the Stream.” They made memorable trips to the Boundary Waters, allowing Jim to pass along his love of fishing and the outdoors to his children. He loved hunting deer and waterfowl, fishing, bowling, playing softball, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Jim retired from NW Bell where he was a lineman. Afterwards, Jim enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the great outdoors at Gander Mountain, passing along his wisdom to lucky customers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife in 2018, and son in 2021.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Shelley (Joe) Scott; grandchildren, Abbi, Tyler and Trevor Thoreson, Lauren and Johnny Scott; daughter-in-law, Traci Thoreson; siblings, Tim (Julie) Thoreson, Kathy Jones, Patty (Mark) Stenhammer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
