Hrisoula Regas, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
Hrisoula (Cris) Dovolos was born in Niata, Greece in December of 1940 to Demo and Anna (Papadakis) Dovolos. She attended school through the age of 12 before she went on to finishing school and a seamstress internship. She left Greece at the age of 21, following her marriage to John L. Regas.
Hrisoula and John made their home in Duluth, Minnesota where they raised their two daughters, Katherine and Anna, and proudly owned the Deluxe Coney Island on First Street for almost 40 years.
Cris established deep roots in Duluth through family, many friends, and her beloved parish, Twelve Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church. She was an active member of Philoptochos and the Daughters of Penelope. A faithful sacred baker, she provided thousands of loaves of bread over the course of her life to both Twelve Holy Apostles and St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis.
After her husband passed, Hrisoula moved to Eagan, Minnesota to be close to her daughters and five grandchildren. Once again, she built meaningful connections in this new community through her devotion to her family and friends. Cris spent countless hours dedicated to her grandkids – from attending school activities to hosting sleepovers to planning road trips to passing on her cherished recipes, culture, and traditions. She was lovingly known as “Yiayia” to not only her five grandchildren but to so many others who knew her love and presence.
Hrisoula was a talented cook and baker, a generous friend, a gracious hostess, and a caretaker to all. She was beloved for her humor, strength, generosity, and heart – a true combination of love and iron. Cris was known to make friends wherever she went and made every single one of them feel special.
Cris was a vibrant person who loved to travel, play cards, and be active (near-mastering golf, curling, and bowling). But most of all, she cherished good food, drink, and company… and a good laugh. She will be missed by many for all that she was.
Hrisoula was preceded in death by her parents (Demo and Anna), her beloved husband (John), her brother (Peter), and her brothers-in-law (Jimmy and Peter). She will be greatly missed by her daughters and sons-in-law Katherine and Sam Economou and Anna and Kevin Paulson; cherished grandchildren Annie (Parker) Mullins, Crissy (Ben) Sicoli, Peter (Jackie) Economou, Elleni (Jake) Oie, and John (Emilia) Paulson; adored great-grandchildren Rina, Mickey, Marco, Tino, Nefeli, and Mila; brothers (John and George Dovolos); nieces and nephews; god-children; many relatives; and dear friends.
Visitation: Tuesday, April 14th at 10:30 am at the Dougherty Funeral Home in Duluth followed by the funeral service 11:30 am at Twelve Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church in Duluth. Interment to follow at Forest Hills Cemetery.
