Heather Rae Meehan, 62, passed away on February 16, 2026, in her home. She was a graduate of Duluth East High School and attended college in Texas before choosing to return home to work at the family business, Meehan’s GTC Auto Parts. For more than 20 years, Heather worked side-by-side with her grandfather, father, and her brother Jamie, helping them to manage and grow the business. She acquired many friends-both personal and professional during this time.
Heather had a zest for life and a curious mind. She loved many things-gardening, birding, boating, photography, antiques, summertime, the Apostle Islands, the beauty of nature. She designed and helped to build her home on Park Point, a space that reflected her elegance, creativity, and connection to the natural world around her.
She also loved to travel-Hawaii, the South Pacific, Germany, the UK, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand were among the many places she visited. Florida held a special place in her heart.
She treasured time spent with her family-especially with her beloved nephew, James Van Loon.
Heather will be remembered most for her infectious laughter and her gift of making those around her feel treasured and loved.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her uncle, Dennis Hansen, her brother, James L. Meehan,III (Jamie), and her “heart dog,” Midgie.
She is survived by her parents, James (Smiley) and Diana Meehan, her sisters Erin Meehan (Brent Bellinger) and Jessica Meehan (Derin Van Loon), her nephew James Van Loon, aunts and uncles, Janice and Paul Wicklund, Judith Hansen, J. Douglas and Bonnie Hansen, her cousins, ex-husband David Solon, stepson Kyle Solon and family, and many dear friends and neighbors who cared for her.
Memorials, if desired, may be directed to Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, Chum, The Salvation Army, the DNR Nongame Wildlife Program, or Friends of the Apostle Islands.
