Guy Robert Bradt

Feb 17, 1931 — Oct 20, 2026

Duluth

Guy Robert Bradt, 95, of Duluth, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at home with his family. Guy was born on February 17, 1931, in Hastings, MN to Robert and Lucille (Neiderkorn) Bradt.

Guy attended Hastings High School where he played baseball, football and basketball and was on the newly formed wrestling team. He joined the National Guard and was deployed to Korea where he served as a Sergeant First Class. He spent his career working for the railroad as a brakeman for the Great Northern R.R., then for the DM&IR R.R as a telegrapher and dispatcher. He retired in June 1990 as Chief Dispatcher and Assistant Superintendent with over 30 years of service. He served as President of the Eveleth Jaycees, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and Exalted Ruler of the Eveleth Elks.

On May 25, 1957, Guy married the love of his life, the beautiful and talented Darlene (Dolly) Gregorich of Eveleth. They shared nearly 70 wonderful years together and raised five children. They enjoyed golfing, hiking, swimming, softball, snowmobiling, camping, and spending time with family at their places on Long Lake and later Lake Vermilion. After retirement, they found their second home in Lake Havasu, AZ, where they spent 25 winters with many new and old friends. It was also there that Guy won numerous pool tournaments and had his two golf Aces.

Guy was a devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather/great-grandfather. He could never say “No” to his beloved Dolly, and his loving care for her, especially over the past 4 years, was an inspiration to many. He raised his children to be strong and independent and was immensely proud that all five graduated college. He encouraged us to find jobs we enjoyed, because if you love what you do, you'll never spend a day unhappy. He had the magic touch when it came to cranky grandbabies, and as they grew he enjoyed nothing more than getting the many inflatable beach toys, the bonfire, and the s’mores ready for them.

Guy was the consummate host as you would barely be through the door and he was offering a drink and his homemade snack, known simply as "Grandpa's Pretzels.” He had the patience of a saint and rarely raised his voice. He never had an unkind word to say about anyone, believing that once words were spoken they could never be taken back.

Guy was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Arnie Bradt, Bette (Welshons), Audrey (Kochendorfer) and Gene Bradt. He is survived by his wife Dolly; children Steven (Diane); Sally (Blaze Zenner); Stuart (Jodi), Scott (Lorrie), and Shari (Justin Bowen); 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; siblings Mary (Al) Keifer and William Bradt; and by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21 in Duluth from 1:00-3:00 pm at the Ridgeview Country Club.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ecumen Lakeshore for their caring support of Guy and Dolly. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Ecumen Foundation (https://ecumen.org/about-us/giving/).
