Gregory Peter Manolis

Apr 6, 1962 — Aug 6, 2026

Duluth

Gregory Peter Manolis passed into the Lord’s care on August 6th, 2026 after struggling with many health ailments over the years. He was 64 years old. Born on April 6th, 1962 to Peter and Loula Manolis in Duluth, MN, he graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1980 and later graduated from Lake Superior College with an Associates Degree in Auto Mechanics in 1983.

Gregory was raised in the Greek Orthodox Faith and Greek cultural traditions. As a youth, he served with his older brother, Christos (“Chris”), as an altar boy and attended Sunday School at Twelve Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church. Chris and Greg both learned and knew the Greek language very well. Greg also was involved in Boy Scouts and loved to play all sports as he was very athletic. While in high school, he played football for Duluth Central and as an adult, he was an exceptional catcher and outfielder on his softball team.

Just like his older brother, Greg worked at their father’s iconic and well-loved business, Mr. Pete’s Corral in downtown Duluth and at Mr. Nick’s restaurant. Because Greg was so talented at fixing things, he later worked for Duluth contractor Bill Scott. Greg went on to be hired at the Holiday Inn within their maintenance department. He worked there for 35 years.

In his leisure time, Greg loved to fix old cars or anything else that needed repairs. He frequently could be found in the garage at the Arrowhead Road house tinkering with anything that he could find to restore. He loved watching old movies, especially Elvis movies with his mother who simply adores Elvis to this very day. Greg and his mother took an iconic trip together to visit Graceland in 1985. For which together they bought an expensive camera to take the best pictures possible for this very memorable occasion. Greg also loved watching old sitcoms on Me TV and playing gin rummy with his Godbrother and dear friend, Nick Patronas.

Greg was preceded in death by his father, Peter C. Manolis, his brother, Christos (“Chris”) Manolis, his paternal grandparents, Christos and Georgia Manolis, his maternal grandparents, Peter and Helen Georgalan, his uncle James C. Manolis, his aunt Betty Manolis, his uncle Constantine (“Dino”) Georgalan, and cousins Peter Georgalen, Chris Manolis, and Elizabeth (“Beth”) Manolis.

He is survived by his mother, Loula Manolis (of Duluth, MN), his niece Ashley Sawicki (of Tracy, MN), his aunt Helene Georgalan (of Madison, WI), 3 first cousins, his Godmother Patricia Patronas-Swor (of Duluth, MN), 5 Godsisters, 1 Godbrother, and many friends who also loved and admired his funny and vivacious wit.
