Grant Boyat

Grant Boyat age 64 of Duluth died on June 1, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born on May 16, 1962 to parents, Robert and Mary Ann (Gardonio) Boyat. Grant was born and raised in Smithville, playing youth hockey and singing in various school choirs at Morgan Park High School, where he graduated in 1980. He was a past member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, where he sang in the choir and volunteer as an altar boy.

Grant earned an associate’s degree in forestry from Duluth VoTech. He retired from Northland Constructor in 2025, where he worked as a truck driver. He cherished time outdoors, fishing and hunting. He will be remembered for his colorful personality, quick wit, and infectious humor that brought many smiles to all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister-in-law, Jill A. Boyat. Grant is survived by his son, Joshua (Crystal) Boyat; granddaughter, Emma LaTour; sisters, Stephanie (Thom) Chartier, Angela (Joel) Gustafson; brothers, Robert (Jill M.), and Kyle (Shelia); former partner and her children, Pamela, Lucas, Joshua, and Tyler Carlson; many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, June 8th at Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second Street, Duluth. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice are preferred.
