April 25, 1951 — February 9, 2022

Gerald Michael Lieberg

Born in Roseau, MN on April 25, 1951, and died in Duluth, MN on February 9, 2022.

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022, from 4pm – 7pm, at Dougherty Funeral Home and for an hour before the 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 1419 St. Benedict Street, Duluth, MN  55811. Gerry always said: “If you can read, you can do anything!” and truly lived by this sentiment. He approached life with a kind curiosity, always excited to learn new things. He jumped into projects with no hesitation and loved more than anything to tell you all about them! The house was his masterpiece. From finishing the lower level, to replacing all the floors, creating an arch in the dining room, moving the deck to the opposite side of the house, building his own desk/hutch and so much more, he never stopped customizing and upgrading. He took up computers for fun and built new computers for just about everyone he knew. In the summer, he loved to be outside, digging around in the garden and rotating his ever-growing compost. His passion for photography started when he was young, and never seemed to fade. He passed on that eye for photography to his children. More than any of his hobbies though, he loved his job. He couldn’t even believe he was paid to be a speech pathologist. He was so smart and helped so many people! He was instrumental in the development of the Rehab Care Unit in St. Luke’s Hospital. He loved to talk and loved to laugh! He was very proud of his family and loved his children more than anything.

Dementia is a terribly difficult disease. The grief is unpredictable, with each loss a little more unbearable. Although many who suffer from dementia ultimately die due to complications of the disease or accompanying infections, Gerry died peacefully in his sleep with his wife by his side.

He is survived by his wife, Debra; his children, Justina (her husband, Nathan and their children, Kapri, Milo, Bodhi and Wylie), Tara (her husband, Vince and their children, Amelia and Elin), Elissa (her husband, Bryan and daughter, Isla), Chris (his favorite son), Regina (her husband, Tom and stepson Caden), and Snickers (his beloved dog); his siblings, Jerome “Big Jer” (Bonnie), Denny (Cathy), Sheldon (Katie), Janice, Karin and Dave (Diane); and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lillian, and his brother Dick.

Please think of Gerry when shopping in Menards or having a beer with those you love!
