Donald B. Kinsey

Donald B. Kinsey, 72, of Duluth passed away with his wife and son by his side on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in Duluth.

Donald was an Air Force veteran and dedicated 38 years to the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 2017. He was President of both the Duluth Area and Minnesota State Postal Workers Unions. Known for his wit at the Lakeside Post Office, he famously reminded residents they didn't carry tax forms and always provided candy for "kids of ALL ages".

Born in Kingsville, Texas, Donald was a man of humor and adventure, raced motorcycles, traveled to 31 states and five countries, and received a business administration degree from UMD. He often claimed to be his own interpreter for the many languages he "fluently" spoke and maintained that he always had the right answers—people just asked him the wrong questions.

He is preceded in death by his father, David B Kinsey Jr.; and mother, Martha Kinsey; daughter, Christa; grandparents, David and Mable Kinsey, Otto and Eva Custer; in-laws, Angus and June Malm; brother-in-law, John Malm; and sister-in-law, Linda Malm.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan; son, Nathan Kinsey of Two Harbors; grandchildren, Jonathan and Alexis; brother, William (Kate) Kinsey of Taft, Texas; brother-in-law, David (Brenda) Malm of Rice Lake township; and sister-in-law, Mary Anne Malm of Duluth.

Donald had many friends that he worked with and met throughout his lifetime and he enjoyed the many discussions and activities he had with them. He could remember the names of everyone he met. Donald urged everyone to live life to the fullest and laugh often. Though he missed his goal of living to 125 by 73 years, he joked that he finally achieved his wish for a "smoking hot body," even if this wasn't quite what he had in mind.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Friday, May 29, 2026 at Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second Street, Duluth with a Visitation beginning at 10am. Military Honors following the Service.
