Donald James Behling

Donald James Behling passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 20, 2026. Don was born to Edward and Helen Behling on August 8, 1943. He graduated from Central High School in 1961 and UMD in 1966 with a degree in industrial arts education, as well as a master’s degree in education. He taught at Ordean Jr. High School for 11 years before earning his media specialist degree from UWS. He served as a librarian in Duluth elementary schools and Central High School, retiring in 2000.

Don enjoyed fishing and made countless canoe trips to Canada. 1940 Ford cars were his passion, spending numerous hours restoring his three vehicles. He was also a talented handyman, repairing and remodeling many home projects.

His parents, brother Ray, and son-in-law Mark Dagostino, M.D. preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; daughter, Erin Behling-Dagostino; son, Chad (Kate); granddaughters, Anniston, Saylor, and Henley Behling; brother, Bob (Bev); as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Paul Sanford and Dr. Umar Siddiqui, as well as Pines III Assisted Living, for their kind and compassionate care. Services will be held on Tuesday, February 10th at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 151 W Linden St, Duluth, MN 55811, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service.
