Debra Blustin

March 12, 1956 — November 9, 2019

Debra Bertelsen Blustin, passed away unexpectedly on November 9, 2019 at the age of 63. Debbie was born in Duluth, MN on March 12, 1956 and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1974.

Debbie’s characteristic snort and prankster personality will be some of the first qualities missed from this devoted Mom, Grandchild-spoiler, loving partner and dear friend.

Debbie met and married the love of her life and soulmate Dr. Jeffery Blustin and together they raised 3 daughters, who they cherished beyond words. A close second to the love for their family was the love they shared for riding their Harley’s. If they were not riding, you could find them at Ridgeview Country Club playing golf or socializing with their many friends.

Throughout the trials Deb endured in her life, she fought with bravery gained from her proud “West End” roots. During her husband’s 3-year battle with cancer, Debbie stifled her own grief in order to give Jeff and their daughters the strength and courage they would need to face the disease that would eventually take his life.

Anyone who knew Debbie would tell you that her greatest love was her family! She had already begun her Christmas gift lists for her 7 grandchildren- no coordinated outfit or fancy new toy was too much if she thought one of her grandchildren would enjoy it. Her children were made infamous by the giant balloon bouquets she sent to school for every birthday, for the elaborate parties and sleepovers she threw for them and the hilariously animated “Woot Woot” cheers she would shout at their sporting events. Deb’s friends will lovingly remember “Queen Bee” for her take-charge personality and huge heart, who always put family and friendships first.

Years after Jeff’s passing, Debbie met Billy Moen, or as she affectionately referred to him, “My Bill”. He was her lovingly devoted significant other, who became a much-valued member of her family. Together they spent the last several years perfecting the lake home she always wanted, taking evening pontoon rides and enjoying the beautiful Island Lake sunsets.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Jeff Blustin, her parents Darwin & Helen Bertelsen, brother Gary and sister Tammy.

Debbie is survived by daughters Kelly Hall (Reggie), Carrie Cross (Jordan) and Dr. Jodi Blustin (Brandon Malz). Seven grandchildren - Dane & Jake DeDominces and Jordan Hall, Julia, Natalie & Emily Cross and Cameron Malz. Significant other, Billy Moen and his daughter Tara. Brothers Allen (Jen) & Brian (Dina) Bertelsen and their children. Many dear friends including her “Bestie” Susie Lehna. Cherished dogs, Puppy Rusty and Tank.
