David Jon Backman

David Jon Backman, 79, of Duluth, died Friday, January 2, 2026 in his home with family by his side. David was born in Fergus Falls, MN on April 20, 1946 to Harold and June Backman. David served in the U S Army during Vietnam. He married Cynthia Scott on September 9, 1967 in Babbitt, MN. David owned a wholesale meat distributing company in Duluth, managed Enger Park Golf Course and retired from Curtis Oil where he was in sales. David enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling, spending winters in Florida and coaching his son in baseball and hockey. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Gallagher; brother, Gerald Backman; a niece, Stacie Boespflug. David is survived by his wife, Cindy; son, Scott (Juanita) Backman of Brooklyn Park, MN; two grandchildren, Adam and Lauren Backman; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
