Darleen Kahlstorf

Darleen Marie Kahlstorf, 84, of Duluth, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at the Benedictine Health Center in Duluth, MN.  Darleen was born in Blackduck, MN on December 17, 1936 to Herman Preston and Ellen Marie (Erickson) Boren. Her childhood was spent on a small farm in Kelliher, MN. After high school, she attended Bemidji State University and studied Music Education before her marriage to Leon LeRoy Kahlstorf on June 16, 1956.  The couple lived briefly in Silver Bay before moving to their farm in Clover Valley, where they raised three children. Darleen was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was happiest when she was surrounded by her family. She was an avid quilter, excellent cook, and homemaker. She loved to read. She was active in her church and served as pianist for several decades (North Shore Baptist Church and Emmanuel Baptist Church).

Darleen was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ardyce Boren-Wells, her brother Donald Boren, and her grandson Nathan Milo Kahlstorf.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 65 years, Leon; her three children:  Terry (Karen) Kahlstorf of Brookston, MN, SuAnn (Greg) Ojard of Vernon, CT, and Karen (Lee) Swanson of Moorhead, MN; five grandchildren:  Travis (Sheila) Kahlstorf, Courtney (Kevin Faugno) Ojard , Hannah (Jason VanGundy) Ojard, Justin Swanson and Sean Swanson; and three great-grandchildren Daran Tan, Tyler Kahlstorf and Cody Ojard.

VISITATION:  Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 1 – 2 PM, followed at 2PM with the funeral service at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1505 Eklund Ave. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Palmers.  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Duluth, 218-727-3555
