Dale "Moe" F Nelson 70, passed away on Feb 19, 2019 at Essentia St Mary's Hospice, with family members at his side. Dale was born in Duluth May 19, 1948 and grew up in Grand Marais, MN. He attended the University of MN Duluth and later enlisted in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He served 4 years on the aircraft carrier USS Kittyhawk, did two tours to the western pacific, and received multiple awards for his service. Dale was a mechanic for Enbridge (formerly Lakehead Pipeline) for 34 years retiring in 2006. Dale's interests included golf, racquetball, cribbage, fishing, and wood working. Dale had a passion for his church where he enjoyed ushering and singing worship songs. Dale loved spending time with his friends and family and had a profound impact on many lives. Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Ruth Nelson. He is survived by his son Daniel, daughter Kayla, daughter Tiffany (Wesley) Hanson, grand children Travis, Brendan, and Eli, brothers Dayton and Terry (Kathy) and nephew Brent (Aimee) Nelson. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hermantown Community Church on Saturday March 2 nd with visitation at 10AM followed by an 11AM service. Dale will be buried at the Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery.
