Cory Thomas Wirta

Cory Thomas Wirta, 33 of Duluth, MN passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. He was born to William and Vicky on September 6, 1991. He graduated from Duluth Central High School in 2010. He attended the Universal Technical Institute, studied Diesel Mechanics, he worked for Simonsen’s in Park Rapids.

He loved swimming and the outdoors. He loved his dog “Baby”. He loved his children, girlfriend, family, and his friends, but mostly he loved spending time with his children. We will miss Cory’s innocent and warm smile. His quirky sense of humor. His sweetness and gentleness. He was a loving father to his twin boys William and John; as too his girlfriend of many years, Billie Jo Gaffney.

He was preceded in death by grandparents and cousins of the Gams, Stennes, and Wirta families.

Cory is survived by his twin sons, John and William; parents, William and Vicky (Stennes) Wirta; brother, Shawn Wirta and sister, Vanessa Wirta; nieces, Payton Wirta and Izzabella Towle; grandmother, Shirley Stennes; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, family, and friends.

Visitation begins at 10AM with service at 11AM, Friday, June 27, 2025, at Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd street, Duluth, MN 55805. Visitation will continue at 110 E Village View Dr. Community Room following the service.
