Charles F. Hanson

Charles “Charlie” Hanson, of Duluth, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2026.

Born and raised in Duluth, Charlie graduated from Denfeld High School and went on to attend the University of Minnesota Duluth, where he earned a master’s degree in special education. He dedicated 33 years to teaching, making a lasting impact on generations of students through his patience, compassion, and unwavering belief in their potential. 

Charlie proudly served in the Minnesota Air National Guard for 30 years, demonstrating dedication and pride in serving both his state and nation.

Beyond his careers in education and military service, Charlie was a successful entrepreneur and longtime co-owner of H&M Properties. For more than 60 years, he helped build and manage residential rental properties in the Duluth area. Through hard work, discipline, and sound judgment, he created a lasting business and legacy.

Charlie was known for his integrity, generosity, and steady presence. He approached every responsibility with care and diligence, whether teaching students, serving in uniform, managing business affairs, or supporting those he loved.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Earleen; his brother, Gary; and his nieces and nephews, Amie Hanson, Dane Hanson, Christian Hanson and Eric Hanson.

Charlie will be remembered with love and gratitude by family, friends, former students, business associates, and all whose lives were enriched by his kindness and example.  Private services have been held. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home.  600 E. 2nd St., Duluth, MN 55805.  218-727-3555.
