On October 3, 2026, Catherine Rose Eaton (Jansen) passed away peacefully in her sleep. Her beloved cat, Odette, never left her side. Katie (or"Ma," or “G” as she was known by friends and family), was a true caregiver. This was shown in her chosen career as a health care worker, and in the love, she gave to her family, the service she provided in the community as Girl Scout leader, as a Cub Scout den mother, and in so many other ways. She taught her children to work hard, care for others, and to value learning.
Katie loved music and animals, including a giant spider which lived in her basement above her washing machine, to whom she provided a name, and kept under her protection. She also “cheated” at cards while calling people names like "garden weasel".
She was preceded to eternal peace by her husband (Russell) mother (Oma), her father (Paul) her siblings Joy, Paul (aka-Bud), Roy (aka-Ted), Ruby, Ruth, and Phillis and half-sister Sheila, and has surely been greeted by the many pets she loved over the years. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Cheryl (Mark), Cindy, Cathy (George), Russell, and Ross (Jody) also by grandchildren Nick (Stephanie), Desiree (Kyle), Jessica (Beau), Dylan (Haley), Devin, Andy, Christa (Emma), Laura, Ryan and Bree. She had a special love for her grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. As people who knew her well understand, she had many “children” who were not born to her, but she considered them hers every bit as much as if they were and was fiercely protective of us, supportive of us, and unafraid of sharing her opinion on how we conducted ourselves.
She will be laid to rest near her mom and dad with a graveside ceremony on October 19, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the cemetery in Kelliher, Mn. The family is thankful to Dougherty Funeral Home and Reverend Joel Zimmerman for helping us make this happen.
The family will host a celebration of life on November 21, 2026, at the home of Cheryl and Mark, please reach out to one of the family for details.
Help us honor her memory by listening to some music by Elvis Presley today.
