In loving memory of Benita Marie Hodges

Benita Marie Hodges lovingly known to many simply as Nita was born on July 31 1985 in Chicago Illinois to Darlene Hodges and James Evans. She later made her home in Hibbing Minnesota where she built a life surrounded by family memories laughter music and love.

Benita departed this life on September 27 2026 at the age of 41, although her time with us was far too short the presence she left behind is impossible to forget.

Benita was truly the life of the party, she was a firecracker with a personality all her own, she was funny outspoken authentic loving spiritual and never afraid to be exactly who she was. She could light up a room simply by being in it and you always knew when Benita was around. She never took anything off anybody never worried too much about what people thought of her and encouraged the people she loved to live their lives the same way authentically and unapologetically.

Benita was a woman of many talents and interests. She attended school to become a pharmacy technician and earned her pharmacy technician license. She loved music, singing, dancing doing her hair and nails experimenting with different colored contacts, puzzles, watching documentaries and trying new and unusual foods and candies and taking pictures. She was also known for always having a bag with her a trait lovingly inherited from her mother. There was almost always something interesting tucked away in that bag.

Music was a major part of Benita’s spirit so was dancing she was a dancerette on the south shore drill team she loved to sing and she knew how to have a good time,Queen B could bring her own energy to any gathering. She loved recording moments making memories and giving everyone something to laugh about later.

Those who knew Benita best knew that her personality could be just as unpredictable as it was unforgettable. She could make everyone laugh with her stories her dancing her jokes and the way her mind seemed to move a hundred miles a minute. Her family will always remember the funny things she said the way she called people’s names and the phrases that became uniquely hers including “I tried to tell ya.” She had a way of turning even the most ordinary moment into a memory.

Above all else Benita loved deeply.

She loved her children fiercely and was a mother who cared deeply for them and that will not change even in the afterlife. She leaves behind her children Aries her oldest son, her daughters SpeAriT and Trez’jure, she was preceded in death by her beloved son WysDom whom was waiting for her at the heaven gates.

Benita’s love extended far beyond her children. She loved her nieces and nephews and was a memorable aunt in every sense of the word. She was funny loving sometimes annoying always entertaining and impossible to forget, she loved being a turn-up partner always trying to get you going. You always knew when auntie nita was in the room.

As a sister Benita was just as unforgettable. She loved her siblings deeply and always found her way back to them. Even after disagreements and periods of silence the bond never truly disappeared. She loved her brothers and sisters and made sure to reach out make the phone call and let them know she was there. Her family knew that underneath everything was a woman who loved deeply and never truly let go of the people she loved.

Benita was preceded in death by her son WysDom; her grandmother Virginia; her aunts Ada Trina Sharon and Johnetta; her cousin Veronica; and her brother Antonio.

She leaves to cherish her memory her mother Darlene Hodges; her father James Evans; her children Aries SpeAriT and Trez’jure; her siblings Kiwana Hodges Greg Hodges and Latasha Hodges; along with her nieces nephews Antonio,Greg Jr,Taleeya,Lee,Kaylee extended family friends and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Benita was not perfect and she never claimed to be. she was simply Benita completely herself. She lived loudly loved deeply laughed hard and left behind memories that cannot be replaced.

Her family will see her in the little things: in music in dancing in a party in a drink in a funny story in a random piece of candy in someone calling your name a certain way and in the moments when somebody does something that makes the whole room laugh rainbows and butterflies.

Her absence will be felt deeply but so will her presence.

Benita’s family finds comfort in knowing that she is now in God’s hands and reunited with the loved ones who went before her especially her son WysDom. After everything she carried in this life may she finally know peace.

She left us memories,She left us love,She left us pieces of herself in the people she loved and those pieces will continue to live on as long as we do.

So until we meet again we will love our people take care of her babies laugh loudly dance when the music comes on make memories and live life fully.

Because if Benita were here she’d probably tell us to stop crying get ourselves together turn the music up and have a drink.

Rest peacefully Queen B.
