Barbara Joann Butchart

Barbara Joann Butchart, age 82 of Duluth, was relieved of her Alzheimer’s on October 16, 2026. She was born in Duluth on April 17, 1944 to parents Harlan and Marion (Carlson) Rathe. A life-long Duluthian, she graduated from Duluth Central in 1962. She worked as a secretary for WDIO and UMD Police and Parking departments. Years after the passing of her husband, Ronald Jacobson, Barb found love again. She married Jerry Butchart on June 11, 1984 and they shared 42 years of marriage. They travelled extensively throughout the US and internationally. She was happiest while outside skiing and playing golf. More than anything, Barb loved her family and thrived in her role as a grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Ronald Jacobson; brothers, Duane and Dan Rathe. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jerry Butchart; son, Brad (Lois) Jacobson; step-son, Steve Butchart (Carrie Cecka); grandchildren, Tyler, Morgan, McKenzie, and Annalise Jacobson, and Gracie Butchart; and many extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 27th at 11:00 am with a visitation starting at 10:00 am in Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home, 3208 W 3rd Street, Duluth 55806. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer's Association or Salvatin Army are preferred. Private interment at Forest Hill Cemetery.
