Lester Davis, 92, of Duluth, died Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born July 30, 1926 in Crookston, MN. to William and Lillian (Flewell) Davis. Lester graduated from Crookston’s Agricultural High School in 1944. Later he earned a degree in welding from a Duluth Vocational School. A resident of Duluth since 1944, he worked at the Fitger Brewery for 26 & ½ years and at St. Scholastica for 20 years, retiring in 1991. Lester married Caroline Palmer on October 18, 1945. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Lester’s hobbies included restoring two classic Studerbakers for which he received several trophies at car shows. He was involved in racing with his son Stanley and served as Stanley’s pit manager from the age of 38 until the age of 85 when Stanley retired from racing. Lester also built furniture out of oak for his family and friends- he was an excellent carpenter and all-around handyman. Lester was always there for his wife and family, always putting them before himself. Lester was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings Bernard, Stanley and Marian Kniff; an infant son Robert; and his wife Caroline in 2002. Lester is survived by his children: Stanley L. (Linda) of Maple Grove, MN., William (Linda) of Champlin, MN and Janice (Barry) Marciniak of Duluth; his brother Frank of Hamel, MN; his sister-in-law Doris Davis of Crookston, MN; nine grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and 1 foster grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Private family services will be held. Inurnment will be at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery, Hermantown.
