Jane Rose Cleave, 72, of the City of Rice Lake, Minn., died Tuesday, October 1, 2019 in her home. She was born in Dayton, Ohio on December 8, 1946 to Elwood and Betty Rose. Jane graduated from Western Michigan University. She married Frank Cleave, the love of her life, on August 18, 1974. She and Frank moved to Duluth in 2003. Jane served as president of the Duluth Audubon Society for over ten years. She was instrumental in helping to organize workshops, sponsor local projects, and coordinate monthly educational meetings.
She loved the outdoors and enjoyed nature photography, fishing locally and on fly-in trips to Canada, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and hiking. She supported the local Animal Allies- Humane Society. Jane enjoyed gardening and cooking classes given by the Duluth Community Education Programs. She and Frank often traveled to warmer climates in the wintertime, having visited Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, St. Maarten, Tobago, and Jamaica numerous times.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 2018. She is survived by cousins Tonia Brock, Paul Goble, Beth Compton and Theresa O’Connell, sister-in-law Marcia Cleave Loveman (Jim) and nieces, nephews and many friends.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held on Sauturday, January 4, 2020 from 11AM -1PM in the social hall at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Duluth, 835 W. College St. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Duluth, 218-727-3555.
