Jacob John Vesel, age 77, of Duluth, died Saturday, June 22, 2019 at the Solvay Hospice House. He was born February 2, 1942 in Soudan, Minn. to Jacob John and Angela Rose (Palcher) Vesel. Jake was a graduate of Ely Junior college. He married Mabel Mary Weisinger in Ely on June 16, 1962. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Gnesen, the Knights of Columbus and the Elks. Jake started Vesel Construction, Inc. in 1978 and made it into a very successful business. Jake touched a lot of lives in the construction community. He worked hard and played hard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking with his loved ones. He was proud of his Catholic faith. Jake taught Sunday school for many years and was a fourth degree Knights of Columbus. He loved spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jake and Mabel had a beautiful life together, celebrating 57 years of true partnership. In retirement, Jake and Mabel enjoyed their home in Florida, visiting the wonderful beaches watching incredible sunsets while drinking wine with family. Above all else, family was his world. Jake was preceded in death by his parents, and a nephew Rory Vesel. He is survived by his wife Mabel; his children Dan (Michele) Vesel and their children, Riley, Conner, Anne (Eric) Pryhorocki, Robbie (Sara) Brown, Jacki (Rod) Centers and Valarie (Joel) Wagenbach, Tom (Shana) Vesel and their children, Ashlee (Kyle) Butler, Abbie Vesel (Colton) and Alex Vesel; his great-grandchildren Jaxon, Aria, Raleigh, Mavryk, Archer, Oakley, Weston, Cameron and Asher.
VISITATION: Tuesday, June 25, 2019 from 5-7pm with the Knights of Columbus rosary prayers at 6:30 pm at Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Wednesday, June 26 from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. John’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Josephs-Gnesen Catholic Cemetery.
